Health Benefits Of This Recipe
Whether you’re consuming this pudding in the morning or evening, it’s a delicious, nutrient-dense meal that provides amazing health benefits. Let’s take a look at some of the top health benefits of this banana cream chia pudding.
ENERGY & SATIATION
You’re sure to feel satisfied after consuming this pudding, given the amount of fiber it has, mainly from the chia seeds and bananas. Most people consume sugary, processed cereals for breakfast and coffee. This combo is sure to give you a quick energy boost, but your energy will crash less than 1-2 hours later. If you want energy that lasts, consume a healthier breakfast like this delicious chia pudding.
MAINTAIN A HEALTHY WEIGHT
When consuming this nutrient-dense meal for breakfast OR in place of dessert, you’re supporting your body’s metabolism and weight maintenance. If you’re trying to lose weight, this meal will also benefit you by keeping you fuller for a longer period of time, therefore reducing your cravings throughout the day. In fact, one study found that eating chia seeds for breakfast increased satiety and reduced food intake in the short-term.
ENHANCED DIGESTION
The fiber in this pudding will also enhance your digestion. We require around 40-50 grams of fiber per day for optimal digestion and sadly, most Americans consume even less than 10 grams per day. Incorporate this fiber-filled meal for breakfast or dessert in order to hit your fiber goals and keep your gut healthy and happy.
IMMUNE SUPPORT
There are plenty of cancer-fighting, immune-boosting antioxidants found in this banana cream chia pudding. The chia, coconut milk, and cinnamon provide the most antioxidants. Top it with berries instead of the banana, and you add even more antioxidants into this plant-powered meal. The coconut milk contains lauric acid, known for its antiseptic properties. It assists the body in fighting infections caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Cinnamon also has antifungal and antibacterial properties, which may reduce infections and help fight tooth decay and bad breath.
BONE HEALTH
The ingredients in this banana cream chia pudding provide calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and protein. These minerals work well in supporting overall bone health in men and women alike.
REDUCE HEART DISEASE RISK
Chia and cinnamon have both been found to support the cardiovascular system. Chia can lower blood sugar spikes, possibly due to the amount of fiber, protein and omega-3s. A few human studies support this by showing that eating bread that contains chia seeds lowers the post-meal rise in blood sugar compared to bread that doesn’t include any chia.
Ceyon Cinnamon Vs. Cassia Cinnamon…
What’s The Difference?
Ever wondered why there are two varieties of cinnamon and what the differences are? Let’s find out together.
Most cinnamon you find in most grocery stores is the cheaper Cassia variety, which contains a harmful compound called coumarin.
The health risks of coumarin include but are not limited to: increased risk of cancer, increased mouth sores, low blood sugar, breathing abnormalities, as well as interact negatively with certain medications.
Ceylon is otherwise known as “true cinnamon” and contains a much lower amount of coumarin, making it more beneficial with virtually no risk when consuming it.
If you consume a lot of cinnamon, it’s best to make the switch to ceylon cinnamon. My favorite, high-quality brand can be found here.
Thanks Katie for the great recipe. Will try it tomorrow. Thanks for the healthy hints. Totally didn’t know about the cinnamon.
