Instructions
Melt oils and emulsifier: In a double boiler, melt the shea butter, coconut oil, and emulsifying wax over low heat until fully combined.
Heat the water: In a separate small pot, gently heat the distilled water to a similar temperature as the oil mixture. (This helps them combine better.)
Blend the oil and water: Slowly pour the heated distilled water into the melted oils while whisking constantly to combine. Use an immersion blender or whisk vigorously to fully emulsify the mixture.
Cool the mixture: Let the mixture cool slightly, then stir in the almond oil, calendula oil, vitamin E oil, lavender essential oil, and chamomile essential oil.
Add preservative (optional): If using a preservative, add it now and mix well.
Transfer to a container: Pour the lotion into a clean jar or pump bottle. Allow it to cool completely, and it will thicken into a creamy lotion texture.
Notes
Since this lotion contains water, it’s best to use a preservative to keep it from spoiling. Without a preservative, the lotion should be stored in the fridge and used within 1-2 weeks. With a preservative, it will last up to 3-6 months at room temperature.
